Australia

Australia

Who is the maniac  who  laughs
in the trees
in the afternoon?

Who is the mourner  who moans
at dawn
in this empty land?

The maniac who laughs
in the trees
in the afternoon
and the mourner
who moans at dawn
are the ghosts of the First Fleet.

Impressions in a Graveyard

Impressions in a graveyard

Pigeons perched on a gravestone, having a meeting.....
Pigeons   sitting on the grass, at the Southe gate,
having a picnic.

A robin
My robin
having a sleep.

Head bowed, hands clasped, a minute's silence
is observe by a squirrel
in the morning light.

Head down, head in the grass,
a squirrel roots for acorns
in the morning light.

A  squirrel sits on a branch in the tree
his head under his arm like a hat...

Behind him a group of squirrels, hoeing as in a kitchen garden,
a walled garden.
Are they the ghosts of the monks in a monastery garden?

Where does the Sun go

Elba, Magazzini '97

Where does the Sun go
when it goes over the mountain
Where does it go?

Where does the Sun go
when it falls over backwards
Where does it go?

When it falls over backwards
it crawls under the earth
to rise in the morning
on the other side of the valley.

Does the sun roll down the valley
like a penny
or a ginger biscuit?

D'you think if I walked over the mountain
into the valley I would find the sun asleep on its back?
